Character Spotlight: Zoey

by Kayla Aldrich, Read to Them staff

Hello, all! We hope you’re full of energy and ready to kick-off your reading adventure with Asia Citro’s Dragons & Marshmallows. To get things started, we thought it would be best to introduce you to the star of the show! Get to know her more, below:

Zoey

Name: Zoey

Family: Zoey lives with her parents, and though we don’t know much about her father yet, Zoey’s mother is a scientist preparing for a convention. The two are very close, and often bond over their experiments.

Home: While the exact location isn’t revealed, Zoey lives on a stretch of land at the edge of a magic forest. There’s a barn - in which she’d thought to be boring before - where her mother tends to wounded magical creatures. How do they get in, you might be wondering? By ringing a secret doorbell, of course!

Personality: Zoey is adventurous and excited to delve into the world around her - especially the natural world! While she may be skeptical about how a frog could possibly be glowing and have the ability to speak, she’s eager to dive into all things pertaining to magical creatures. She doesn’t shy away from bugs, either, even when it would totally be normal for her to do so. Zoey is patient, and kind, and loves to help others.

Pets: Zoey has a sweet cat named Sassafras, who loves bugs just as much as Zoey does.

Hobbies: As said, Zoey loves all things science. She is constantly putting together different tests and experiments, and when she get stumped, you can find her wearing her handy-dandy Thinking Goggles. They’re how Zoey comes up with her most brilliant ideas! With her Mom heading on a trip, though, Zoey is about to find a new pastime coming her way: caring for any wounded magical creature who rings the barn’s doorbell.

Notable Quote: “But Mom - that is crazy! Frogs. Can’t. Talk.”
